The Story Behind Retro Cellars

Family Heritage and Napa Valley Legacy

Retro Cellars is more than a winery—it’s the legacy of two families that have shaped the Napa Valley wine industry for decades. Founders Kara and Mike Dunn carry forward the traditions of winemaking pioneers: Kara’s father, Robert Pecota, founded the Robert Pecota Winery, while Mike’s father, Randy Dunn, created the legendary Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain.

In 2003, Retro Cellars was born from a single barrel of Petite Sirah harvested from the historic Park-Muscatine vineyard on Howell Mountain. This vineyard, planted in the late 1800s, inspired the couple to explore small-batch winemaking focused on cool-climate varietals. Over time, their portfolio expanded to include Zinfandel from Green & Red Vineyard and Syrah grown on their home estate.

Every bottle we produce reflects the deep roots of our heritage and our passion for crafting expressive wines that age gracefully. With Mike and Kara at the helm—and their son Alex stepping into the family business—Retro Cellars is poised to continue its journey, blending old-world tradition with modern innovation.
