Where Heritage Meets Adventure

Where Heritage Meets Adventure

A Walk Through Our Howell Mountain Estate

Our estate on Howell Mountain is more than just a vineyard—it’s a living tapestry of Napa Valley’s past and present. The heart of our operations is a 6,000-square-foot cave, originally built as a wine-aging facility. This space, once a playground for rollerblading kids, now houses barrels of Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Zinfandel, aging gracefully in perfect conditions.

The surrounding land is filled with stories. The tasting room, housed in a former stagecoach stop from the 1890s, is rumored to be haunted—a playful piece of local folklore. Outside, our family’s heirloom garden bursts with life each season, tended by Mike’s father, Randy, and our son Alex. From fig trees over 100 years old to beds of roses and peonies, the landscape reflects our deep connection to both nature and tradition.

In spring, sheep graze our vineyards, enriching the soil and keeping our ecosystem healthy. Mike and Alex also maintain old tractors and fire engines scattered across the property, ensuring every piece of equipment runs as well as it did decades ago. A visit to Retro Cellars isn’t just about tasting wine; it’s about stepping into our world—where every detail, every tradition, and every glass connects you to the story of Napa Valley.
